Accessibility at Donna

We want Donna usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technology. We build to the WCAG 2.1 AA standard and treat accessibility as part of the product, not a box to tick. Here’s what we’ve addressed and how to reach us if something isn’t working for you.

What we’ve addressed

The U.S. Department of Justice names six common barriers to an accessible website. Here is where each stands on this site.

• Color contrast

  Text and interface colors are chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast against their backgrounds.

• Information not conveyed by color alone

  Anything signalled with color — status, required fields — also carries a text label, so nothing depends on color vision.

• Image alt text

  Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative images are hidden from screen readers so they don't add noise.

• Accessible forms

  Fields have proper labels and clear instructions, and errors are announced to screen readers rather than shown by color alone.

• Keyboard navigation

  Every interactive element is reachable and operable with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a skip-to-content link.

• Video captions

  Not applicable — this site has no video content.

Using a screen reader

Donna is built to work with your device’s own screen reader. It can’t turn one on for you — no website can — but yours is already on your device:

• VoiceOver (Mac and iPhone): press ⌘ F5, or ask Siri to turn on VoiceOver.
• NVDA (Windows): a free screen reader from nvaccess.org.
• It also works with Narrator on Windows and TalkBack on Android.
